La Segunda Venida en la Luz de la Cruz

 

En nuestra lección del Santuario aprendimos acerca de un grupo de personas que se sintieron decepcionados cuando Jesús no regreso cuando ellos lo esperaban a El en 1844. Ellos estaban muy tristes y afligidos profundamente.  Quiero decir que si usted piensa en esto, no solamente ellos esperaban ver a Jesús otra vez, pero ellos también esperaban ver en la resurrección todos sus seres queridos que habían muerto.  Así que cuando ellos no fueron reunidos con sus seres queridos como ellos completamente esperaban, se afligieron por ellos nuevamente como también por no poder ver a Jesús.  Pero como nosotros hemos hablado, a algunos no les importo que Jesús no hubiera venido, ellos estaban enamorados del mundo y rápidamente regresaron a el.  Estas personas no estaban preparadas para Jesús porque no estaban enamoradas de El o la Cruz, pero si estaban enamorados de si mismos y del mundo.  Pablo dice en Gálatas 6:14 que si glorificamos o  amamos la Cruz nos crucificaran a las cosas mundanales y estas no nos importaran.

Mateo 24:37-39 habla acerca de un grupo de personas que eran como las personas en los días de Noe cuando estaban tan envueltos en si mismos y en el mundo para preocuparse en entrar en el arca antes del diluvio.  Ellos perecieron como lo harán aquellos que en los días finales estén más enamorados del mundo que de Jesús.

Pero todos no están enamorados del mundo.  En 2 de Timoteo 4:8 Pablo habla acerca de todos los que aman la aparición de Jesús y recibirán una corona de vida.  Usted ve, hay una diferencia entre creer que El viene y amar su aparición.  Los niños que se comportan mal mientras su madre esta afuera haciendo diligencias creen que ella regresara pero como se han portado mal y han hecho de la casa un desorden ellos no aman su aparición.  Un verdadero Adventista es uno que no solamente cree en el regreso de Jesús pero esta enamorado de El y de Su aparición. ¡Ellos están como Pablo en Galatas 6:14 enamorados de la Cruz y crucificados con el mundo!

La Biblia se refiere a menudo a la iglesia como una mujer (Apocalipsis 12).  Apocalipsis 19:7 menciona una novia que esta preparada para casarse con el Cordero.  ¿Quien podría ser el Cordero sino Jesús y quien podría ser la esposa sino Su iglesia?  Ahora cuando vamos a una boda usted notara a la pequeña niña de la flor toda elegantemente vestida.  Ella esta preparada para la boda.  Pero el novio no desea casarse con la niña de la flor.  Oh ella esta toda preciosa y ella esta preparada.  Pero ella no vino preparada para el novio.  ¡No, ella vino preparada para el biscocho y el ponche después del servicio! El novio no desea casarse con la niña de la flor y Jesús tampoco.  El novio, Jesús quiere casarse con la novia.  Usted puede ver que la novia vino y esta preparada para una cosa y una cosa solamente.  ¡No es el biscocho y el ponche, todo lo que a ella le interesa es el novio!  Usted ve Jesús no esta regresando por “la niña de la flor” que esta toda excitada acerca del biscocho, ponche, calles de oro y mansiones.  ¡Jesús esta regresando por una novia que solo le interesa El!

Así como la novia esta vestida de blanco, así Apocalipsis habla del redimido que tiene trajes que han sido limpiados y hechos blancos por la sangre del cordero.  Esta es la iglesia de Cristo, Su novia, que se ha enamorado de Jesús el Cordero en la Cruz y esta ahora preparada para Su aparición no tanto para caminar en las calles de oro o vivir en sus nuevas mansiones, pero para mirar en el rostro de su Salvador y Redentor quien murió por ellos.  Entonces podrán personalmente agradecer a Jesús por morir por ellos.  Ellos podrán estrechar Sus manos marcadas con la cicatrices de los clavos y darle las gracias por amarlos.  Ellos están mas que preparados para decirle adiós a este mundo de pecado y sufrimiento porque nunca hubo nada o nadie en este mundo que los amo como Jesús los amo.

Juan 17:24, momentos antes de que Jesús fuera a la Cruz El oro “Padre, aquellos que me has dado, quiero que donde yo estoy, ellos estén también conmigo; para que vean mi gloria que me has dado” Al Jesús mirar hacia la Cruz El vio la meta de reconciliarnos con El para así poder estar con El por siempre en el cielo.

Estas palabras Jesús hablo la tarde que El fue traicionado, conduciéndolo a El a la Cruz.  ¡Jesús soporto la Cruz a pesar de la vergüenza manteniendo Su vista en la meta de tenernos en el cielo con El! Jesús que no miente dijo que El viene otra vez.  ¡Por supuesto que El viene! ¡Mira el precio que pago por nosotros! ¿Usted pagaría varios miles de dólares por un Lexus nuevo y entonces cuando esta preparado no molestarse en irlo a recoger? ¡Por supuesto que no! Jesús no dejo el paraíso para verter Su sangre y dar Su vida sola para darse la vuelta y olvidarse de nosotros.  El viene así como El dijo, para poder estar juntos.  Después de todo, somos lo que hace del cielo un paraíso para Jesús. Hasta que usted este allí no es cielo para Jesús.

¡Que triste! Jesús dio Su vida por estas personas y en lugar de correr a conocerle a El y darle las gracias a El por morir por ellos, ellos corren y se esconden.  No puedo pensar en nada más triste que esconderme de aquel que murió por mí.  No dejemos que este mundo pecaminoso nos mantenga alejados de Jesús.  ¡Planeemos en correr afuera para conocerlo a El!

¡Incluso los que le perforaron ven la meta de la Cruz! Todo el mundo lo ve.  Para algunos que estaban ciegos, la venida de Jesús será la primera cosa que ellos verán.

¡No es para sorprenderse que Jesús quiera regresar de manera que El pueda llevarnos a casa con el!

Mientras que nadie conoce el día, o la hora Jesús dijo que podemos saber la “temporada” de Su regreso que significa que podemos saber cuando el este cerca (Mateo 24:32,33).

Jesús no quiere que nadie se pierda.  El quiere que todo el mundo tenga la oportunidad de escuchar acerca de Su amor que cambia vidas antes de que El regrese.

14. Vimos anteriormente donde en Apocalipsis 19:7 describe en simbolismo la segunda venida.  ¿En Apocalipsis 20:1-3 que le pasa a Satanás después de que Jesús venga?

Satanás esta limitado por circunstancias.  Los redimidos están en el cielo ahora, y los malvados están destruidos (Jeremías 25:30-33). Satanás se pasea solo por la tierra por mil anos sin nadie para tentar.  Por mil anos el considera a donde su rebelión lo ha conducido.  En nuestra primera lección en Salvación vemos a Satanás proclamando que el tiene un mejor plan para el universo del que tiene Dios.  Ahora Satanás ve a donde su plan le ha conducido.  Filipenses 2:10 nos dice que toda rodilla se doblara ante Jesús.  Después de Satanás considerar su rebelión aun sus rodillas se doblaran, aunque ya no habrá arrepentimiento.

Pablo nos dice en 1 Corintios 6:2,3 que juzgaremos al mundo y a los ángeles malvados.  Esto sucederá durante los mil anos, mientras Satanás se pasea solo por la tierra.

Vemos aquí que después de los mil anos no ha habido una segunda oportunidad y ningún arrepentimiento.  Cada uno tenia su oportunidad de aceptar o rechazar  la salvación antes de que Jesús volviera (Mateo 24:14).

En este punto Dios saca a los pecadores de su miseria.  Aun cuando el castigo de Sodoma era eterno el castigar no lo es. (Judas 7) Dios no torturara pecadores por toda la eternidad como Satanás ha hecho que usted crea. La meta de Dios es destruir el pecado, no pecadores, pero tristemente algunos que no quieren dejar sus pecados serán destruidos junto con ellos.  Juan 3:16 dice que aquellos que no crean van a perecer no a quemarse a través de toda la eternidad.  Romanos 6:23 nos dice que la paga del pecado es muerte, y eso fue lo que Jesús experimento por nosotros en la Cruz (Hebreos 2:9).

La paga del pecado no es la eternidad en el infierno pues Jesús obviamente no tomo nuestro lugar en el infierno por la eternidad.  El tomo nuestro lugar en la muerte.

Lea  por favor el siguiente pasaje del capitulo “Gethsemani” del comentario clásico en le Vida de Cristo en El Deseado de Todas las Gentes.  “Los mundos que no habían caído y los ángeles celestiales habían mirado con intenso interés mientras el conflicto se acercaba a su fin. Satanás y su confederación del mal, las legiones de la apostasía, presenciaban atentamente esta gran crisis de la obra de redención. Las potestades del bien y del mal esperaban para ver qué respuesta recibirla la oración tres veces repetida por Cristo. Los ángeles habían anhelado llevar alivio al divino doliente, pero esto no podía ser. Ninguna vía de escape había para el Hijo de Dios. En esta terrible crisis, cuando todo estaba en juego, cuando la copa misteriosa temblaba en la mano del Doliente, los cielos se abrieron, una luz resplandeció de en medio de la tempestuosa obscuridad de esa hora crítica, y el poderoso ángel que está en la presencia de Dios ocupando el lugar del cual cayó Satanás, vino al lado de Cristo. No vino para quitar de su mano la copa, sino para fortalecerle a fin de que pudiese beberla, asegurado del amor de su Padre. Vino para dar poder al suplicante divino-humano. Le mostró los cielos abiertos y le habló de las almas que se salvarían como resultado de sus sufrimientos. Le aseguró que su Padre es mayor y más poderoso que Satanás, que su muerte ocasionaría la derrota completa de Satanás, y que el reino de este mundo sería dado a los santos del Altísimo. Le dijo que vería el trabajo de su alma y quedaría satisfecho, porque vería una multitud de seres humanos salvados, eternamente salvos.”

  1. En el Gethsemane Jesús acepto la Cruz para que así usted  pudiera aceptar el cielo.  ¿Cual es su respuesta?

Estándares en la Luz de la Cruz

Estándares en la Luz de la Cruz

 

Jesús dice en Juan 12:32 “Y yo, si fuere levantado de la tierra, a todos [los hombres] traeré a mí mismo.” Así, El estaba definiendo como el moriría, pero también nos decía que presentando a Jesús al mundo, la gente seria atraída a El en la luz de Su gran sacrificio por ellos.  En Isaías 62:10 dice, “Alzad estándares a los pueblos.”  De manera que la armonía de las Escrituras nos dice que levantemos a Jesús mientras que levantamos los estándares.  Yo no pienso que nadie este en desacuerdo hoy en día que hay estándares tanto en la iglesia como en el mundo que necesitan ser levantados.  El problema es que por anos la iglesia en su totalidad ha caído bajo el legalismo.  Puesto simplemente, el legalismo esta levantando estándares en sus propios esfuerzos con la esperanza de reconocimiento y recompensa, en comparación con el evangelio que esta todavía levantando los estándares, pero los esta levantando en amor por Jesús y Su muerte en la Cruz y en Su poder.  ¡Bueno, cuando realizamos cuan legalistas éramos,  decidimos lanzar lejos el legalismo lo cual es fantástico!  Ese legalismo nos conduce al orgullo que es el mayor pecado de todos, y nos conduce a compararnos con otros en vez de mirar a Jesús y a Su Cruz.  El problema es, que cuando nos deshacemos del legalismo (no que se haya ido ahora por algún medio) también nos deshacemos de algunos de los estándares.  La naturaleza Humana va bien fácil de un extremo a otro.  Necesitamos el equilibrio apropiado de Juan 12:32 e Isaías 62:10.  Necesitamos levantar los estándares mientras que nos señalan a Jesús y Su Cruz.  Necesitamos mirar a nuestros estándares en la luz de la Cruz.

Lea por favor Marcos 14:3-9 y conteste las siguientes preguntas.

Aquí esta una mujer que estaba simplemente dando todo su ser a Jesús porque El la amaba y la había perdonado y iba a darle todo su Ser a ella, cuando El vertió Su vida en la Cruz.  Desafortunadamente los discípulos no estaban todavía en ese nivel en su amor por Jesús.  Ellos vieron a alguien amando y dando mas de los que a ellos les importaba amar o dar, así que para justificarse ellos trataron de hacerla a ella  parecer una fanática extrema.

Eso es lo que sucede hoy día.  Nosotros vemos a alguien desbordando su amor por la Cruz sacrificando sus recursos para dar más a la iglesia y como nosotros no deseamos ser tan sacrificados y  benevolentes nos justificamos llamándolos a ellos fanáticos.  O quizás ellos hacen otros cambios en la forma en que pasan su tiempo o como ellos se visten y se alimentan y nosotros no estamos dispuestos a hacer esos cambios en nuestras vidas así que hacemos como los discípulos y nos justificamos llamando a estas personas derrochadores y fanáticos cuando ellos no son fanáticos, ellos solamente están enamorados de Jesús y Su Cruz.

La mujer acerca de la cual leemos no es la única persona que ha sido perseguida por levantar los estándares de la Cruz.  En Mateo 5 Jesús nos d alas bienaventuranzas.  Mientras usted lee cada una usted vera que realmente son bloques edificadores para una complete conversión.  Nosotros todos somos pobres en Espíritu, estamos de luto por nuestros pecados y por lo que le hemos hecho a Jesús, y luego Jesús nos hace puros de corazón y luego en el final del proceso de conversión Jesús dice, “Bienaventurados [son] los que padecen persecución por causa de la justicia.” Usted ve que la persecución viene mientras estamos siendo convertidos y levantamos los estándares de Jesús en nuestras vidas.  Nosotros hacemos que el mundo parezca  malo mientras levantamos los estándares y por eso ellos nos persiguen.  Esto es como mi clase de Álgebra en el noveno grado.  Nuestro maestro califico nuestras pruebas por la curva y el grado mas alto sea 70 o 80 viene a ser el 100%  y nuestro porcentaje será tomado del grado más alto en vez de 100.  ¡El único problema era la misma muchacha en nuestra clase que había sacado 100% en cada una de las pruebas! En el día de la prueba ella no era la chica más popular ya que ella había elevado los estándares en vez de ayudarnos a bajarlos.  Odio decirlo, pero ella fue perseguida aunque solamente fuera con desprecios o comentarios groseros.  La culpa del resto de la clase consistía en que se prepararon para la prueba comparándose el uno con el otro en vez de por los estándares como lo hizo esta muchacha.

4. Mientras Pablo predicaba a los Corintios ¿que es la única cosa que El quería que ellos supieran? 1 Corintios 2:2

¡En la predicación de Cristo, Pablo no bajaba los estándares que había levantado! El estaba levantando a Jesús que es el estándar.  Pablo también sabía que cuanto usted pone los estándares antes o sin la Cruz todo lo que tiene es frió legalismo.  Para tener el evangelio debemos mirar a la Cruz, enamorarnos de Jesús y luego como la mujer de la cual leímos en Marcos 14 nosotros debemos dar todo nuestro ser a Jesús y desarrollar estándares para demostrar nuestro aprecio por su amor y sacrificio.

Mientras nos preparamos para mirar algunos estándares en la luz de la Cruz es muy importante que una vez más nos recordemos que estos estándares vienen de nuestro amor por Jesús y no del vernos mejor que todos los demás.

Mientras Pablo escribía a los Corintios que todo lo que el quería predicar era Jesús, El también dijo “Porque no osamos entremeternos o compararnos con algunos que se encomiendan a sí mismos; mas no entienden que ellos, consigo mismos se miden, y a sí mismos se comparan” (2 Corintios 10:12).

En otras palabras cuando el Espíritu Santo esta escribiendo los estándares de Jesús en nuestros corazones nosotros no miramos a otros de dos maneras.  1. Nosotros no imitamos a otros, imitamos a Jesus.  2. Nosotros no condenamos a otros.  Nuestros ojos están en Jesús y en la Cruz.

  1. ¿Que estándares le dio Jesús a Sus discípulos? Juan 13:34

¡Tremendo! ¡Que estándar! Para amar a otros como Jesús nos amo.  ¡El nos amo lo suficiente para morir por nosotros!  Este es seguramente un estándar que podemos alcanzar solamente con la ayuda de Jesús y mirando a la Cruz y como El nos amo.  Fuera de todos los estándares en la Biblia este es el único que el ha re-mencionado antes de que El muriera.  ¡Seguramente si nosotros no tenemos este estándar del amor todos los demás estándares son totalmente inútiles!  Si el amor generoso es el único estándar que usted puede mostrar, la gente seguirá viendo a Dios en usted porque Dios es amor (1 Juan 4:8).

Con este amor los otros estándares aparecerán carentes de amor.

¿Como podemos estar enamorados de las cosas de este mundo que causaron que nuestro Salvador muriera? Es el amor al mundo y sus formas lo que causa que nuestro amor por el evangelio se enfrié.  En Mateo 24:12 Jesús dice, “Y por haberse multiplicado la maldad, la caridad de muchos se enfriará.”  En el verso 14 vemos el amor del cual El esta hablando, es el amor del evangelio que es la Cruz.  Por la iniquidad que abunda sobre nuestro mundo y a través de los medios Satanás ha logrado mas que producir una sociedad pecaminosa, el nos ha causado el ser insensibles a la Cruz.  Dígale a un niño que esta jugando violentos juegos de computadora o esta viendo películas violentas que Jesús murió por el y el te dirá “¿y que me importa?”  Veo gente asesinada todo el tiempo, es parte de mi mundo de entretenimiento.”  Así que Satanás ha logrado mas que producir una sociedad violenta, el ha causado que el amor por la Cruz se enfrié.  Dígale a un adolescente que las ropas y la dignidad de Jesús fueron desgarradas cuando El fue a la Cruz.  Esa fue parte de la vergüenza que el aguanto por nuestra salvación.  Pero quizás le diga “¿y que me importa?”  “Yo enseño mi cuerpo destapado todo el tiempo en la playa como en otros lugares.”  Una vez mas Satanás ha usado la inmoralidad sexual para darle a los adolescentes mas que embarazos, aun mas el ha causado que nuestro amor por la Cruz se enfrié.

¿Y por que debemos de enamorarnos del mundo de todas maneras?  ¿Que ha hecho por nosotros? Jesús nos dio todo lo que el tenia mientras el mundo solamente toma nuestra dedicación y dinero y no nos da nada de regreso.  Jesús esta siempre ahí para usted.  ¿Cuando fue la última vez que su estrella de rock favorita o actor o futbolista estaba ahí cuando los necesitaste?

7. ¿Como podemos saber que nuestro estándar de amor por Jesús no esta decayendo? Filipenses 4:8

8. Por favor lea 1 de Timoteo 2:9, 10 y 1 de Pedro 3:3, 4 y haga un listado de algunos estándares dados para la manera en que nos vestimos.

Nuestro estándares de vestimenta deben estar centrados en la Cruz y no en “el orgullo de la vida” mencionado en 1 de Juan 2.  Por mucho tiempo la iglesia ha condenado el orgullo de la joyería pero no las otras formas de orgullo.  ¿Por que es incorrecto para una joven mujer enseñar su pendiente de lujo, pero esta aceptable para el más viejo doctor en la iglesia enseñar el billete de cien dólares que esta colocando en el plato de la ofrenda? Ambos son orgullo.  ¡El hecho es que Dios ama la joyería!  El nos dará coronas de joyas en el cielo, pero aquí esta la clave.  Así como el hijo prodigo (Lucas 15) no se puso el mismo la joyería sino que dejo que el Padre se la pusiera, así nosotros dejaremos que Dios nos de la joyería cuando lleguemos al cielo.  Mientras estudiamos el santuario (el cual mencionamos en una previa lección que es un tópico muy extenso) encontraremos que la joyería representa justicia.  Cuando lleguemos al cielo Jesús nos habrá perfeccionado y nos habrá hecho justos y El nos dará la joyería que habremos de llevar puesta.  Apocalipsis 4; 10 nos dice que echemos nuestras coronas de joyas a Sus pies pues El es solo justo y digno de la joyería.  ¿Si nos vamos a sentir indignos de llevar puesta las joyas en el cielo porque nos vamos a sentir dignos de llevarlas puestas aquí?

Nuestra única salvación es mantenernos cerca de la Cruz.  Jesús fue despojado de Sus vestiduras reales y dejo su corana real para usar una corona de espinas por nosotros.  Mientras la gloria de la Cruz pone la gloria del hombre en el polvo, ¿como podemos mostrar nuestra ropas lujosas o carros etc. mientras nuestro Salvador uso nuestra corona de espinas?  Esto es un buen momento para recordarnos de mirar a Jesús y no a otros.  Imitemos a Jesús y no a otros y vamos a compararnos con Jesús y no con otros.

El Bautismo así como muchas otras enseñanzas de la Biblia se puede entender correctamente solamente en la luz de la Cruz.  Hoy día mientras que los Bautistas, Los Adventistas del Séptimo Día, y otras iglesias continúan practicando el bautismo por inmersión, que es exactamente lo que el bautismo significa: inmersión, muchos otros bautizan roseando agua o aun pétalos de rosa en algunos casos.  La importancia del bautismo por inmersión se considera cuando miramos el tema en la luz de la Cruz.

Así como Jesús dio Su vida por nosotros y murió a Si mismo, en el bautismo morimos a nosotros mismos y damos nuestras vidas al Único que nos amo primero.  El Bautismo es símbolo de nuestra muerte, pues usted va debajo del agua (¡solamente por un segundo!) y usted esta demostrando su muerte a la ambición egoísta.  Usted no respira agua por lo tanto el agua simboliza el sepulcro.  Cuando usted sale del agua usted toma una nueva respiración, y esta nueva respiración representa la nueva vida que usted esta viviendo por Jesús.

Arrepentimiento debe venir antes que el bautismo.  Esta es la razón por la cual Juan el Bautista dijo a esos que deseaban ser bautizados, “Haced, pues, frutos dignos de arrepentimiento” (Lucas 3:8). El pronunciar una pareja marido y mujer en una boda no los hace enamorarse.  Esto debe suceder antes de la boda.  El ritual del bautismo no tiene “magia” en el cual nos de una nueva vida, pero es justo el símbolo de lo que ya ha ocurrido en el corazón mientras que nosotros pedimos a Jesús que nos perdone y nos limpie de toda injusticia.  El Bautismo simboliza el corazón arrepentido y tornado de si mismo y de la vieja vida y que abraza a Jesús y la nueva vida.

 

En la nueva vida Jesús continúa impartiendo perdón así como poder para vivir la nueva vida. (Hebreos 4:15, 16 Judas 1:24)

Garments of Grace; The Coat of Different Colors

But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. Genesis 45:7 NIV-UK

As we take a look in this week’s SS lesson, on the life of Joseph, I would like to share something that I find very encouraging. While Joseph’s brothers treated him very badly, we see them make a complete change. They are repentant and converted. Joseph even refers to them in Genesis 45 as preserving a remnant? A remnant of what? Well in Revelation 7, Joseph’s family has characteristics that reflect God’s remnant church. Sure they had issues. In Revelation 3, God’s last day remnant church has issues as well. It is the only church of the seven churches that the True Witness has nothing good to say about! Yet Jesus calls this church to repent, and since there is no 8th church I have to believe that it does repent. Since Joseph’s family represents the remnant church, I believe they illustrate how God’s remnant people repent, and show us today what true repentance is.

Earlier, Joseph’s brothers had sold him into slavery in Egypt. They told their father he must have been attacked by a wild beast. This of course broke their father’s heart. Years later, when Joseph has made it to the throne of Egypt, his brothers come to buy food. Joseph tests them before revealing himself to them. His final test proves their repentance. Accusing Benjamin of being a spy and a thief, he attempts to lock him in prison. Benjamin is Joseph’s full brother, and son of the mother that Jacob truly loved and wanted to marry in the first place. The father did not want Benjamin to go on the trip after losing Joseph. Now, Joseph is threatening to put Benjamin in prison for spying and stealing. Read how Judah pleads to be thrown in prison instead. “Now then, please let your servant remain here as my lord’s slave in place of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers. How can I go back to my father if the boy is not with me? No! Do not let me see the misery that would come upon my father.” Genesis 44:33-34 NIV-UK. Judah is showing true repentance. Earlier in Genesis 44 Judah explains how they broke their father’s heart when he lost his first son. Judah is saying that he has broken his father’s heart before, and he will not break his father’s heart again. In fact he would choose to die and rot in a prison cell before he would let his Father’s heart be broken again. So will God’s last day Laodicean people repent as well, when they say with all their heart, “We have broken our Father’s heart before, and we will not break His heart again!”

Garments of Grace; A Garment of Innocence

Many look at the modesty, or lack thereof, issue in the light of sex. As we become more and more comfortable seeing everybody’s flesh, sexual immorality is abounding. There is a greater danger to immodesty than just sexual immorality. To really see the danger of immodesty we must look at it in light of the cross. The greatest danger is not immoral sex, but not sensing our shame and need of a Savior. Thus modesty becomes a salvation issue.

Let’s begin in the Garden of Eden. Contrary to popular belief, while Adam and Eve “were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed,” it was not exactly like a nudist colony today. Page 311 of Christ’s Object Lessons says, “A beautiful soft light, the light of God, enshrouded the holy pair. This robe of light was a symbol of their spiritual garments of heavenly innocence. Had they remained true to God it would ever have continued to enshroud them. But when sin entered, they severed their connection with God, and the light that had encircled them departed. Naked and ashamed, they tried to supply the place of the heavenly garments by sewing together fig leaves for a covering.” 

So they weren’t really walking around naked as we think of the word “naked” to begin with. They had a covering. This is why Adam felt naked when he sinned; the covering had been lost. By his own works he tried to cover his nakedness with fig leaves (his own works) but that did not work.. Likewise today, our good works can never cover our spiritual nakedness. Even after making his own clothes from fig leaves, Adam still felt naked in God’s presence. Only Jesus could cover Adam’s shame. Genesis 3:21 says, “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.” Here is the whole modesty issue in light of the cross. An animal had to die to cover Adam and Eve’s nakedness and shame. Likewise Jesus would have to die naked on a cross in order to ultimately cover our shame. Those who have a sense of modesty and nakedness know they need a Savior to cover their shame. Those who have no sense of shame and modesty sense no need of a Savior.

So more than being a sex issue, proper dress becomes a salvation issue that can only be properly understood, as all other doctrines, in the light of the cross. The fact of the matter is, the further away from God we are the more clothes we take off, but the closer we come to Jesus and accept Him as our Savior, the more we dress properly. In Genesis 3 Adam was naked while running from God. When God found him and presented the plan of salvation and the cross, Adam was then clothed with the animal skins, pointing to Jesus who alone can cover our shame. In Luke 18:27 we find a man wearing no clothes and possessed of devils. However, in verse 35, when he becomes converted we see him clothed and “in his right mind.” Thus, while far from God he had no sense of modesty, but as he became converted and “in his right mind”he began dressing appropriately. This has nothing to do with sexual lust as I seriously doubt such a naked lunatic hanging out in graves would really be a sexual temptation for anyone. So it is today.  The issue today is the same as it was in Luke 18. The man had no sense of modesty when he had no sense of a need for a Savior. Once he sensed his need of a Savior and accepted Christ, he began dressing appropriately as he now saw the issue of dress in the light of the cross.

Now some may say that modesty is a cultural issue. The heathen tribes of Africa all parade around naked because that is their culture. Let’s remember they are called “heathen” tribes for a reason. Also, let’s remember too what Paul says in Galatians 6:14. “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.” In this verse we see that Paul is crucified to the world. The world would be his culture, correct? So it is now the cross and not Paul’s culture that dictates how he dresses and behaves. We also see in Galatians 6:14 that Paul does not glory in his body but in the cross.

At the cross we see the modesty issue as a human dignity issue rather than a sexuality issue. At the cross, while Jesus was being crucified naked, the women “stood afar off”. This had nothing to do with sex. They were not tempted to lust after Jesus as they were there only to show their compassion. As they did so, they did not want to look upon His nakedness in order to protect His human dignity. At the cross we see the importance of human dignity. And when we appreciate the human dignity of all mankind we will not encourage scantily clad bodies on the beach, or on our magazine covers, or anywhere else. In light of the cross, we will teach modesty in dress to all regardless of their age, gender, or culture, as people of all ages, genders and cultures are human and thus all deserve to be treated with the same human dignity that these women showed Jesus.

At the Pier in St.Petersburg you can enjoy all the beauty of the water without any of the immodest distractions you sometimes see at the beach. 

 

Even in the medical world, where doctors are not necessarily looking at the body in a sexual way, dignity is still a factor. In Counsels on Health, page 364, Ellen White writes: “There should be a much larger number of lady physicians, educated not only to act as trained nurses, but also as physicians. It is a most horrible practice, this revealing the secret parts of women to men, or men being treated by women. Women physicians should utterly refuse to look upon the secret parts of men. Women should be thoroughly educated to work for women, and men to work for men. Let men know that they must go to their own sex and not apply to lady physicians.” Please keep in mind this one paragraph is borrowed from its original context. A balanced view of Sister White’s writings allows us to see that this practice should be followed when and where possible, but in emergencies or extreme situations we may need to be treated by the opposite sex and just trust that they will treat us with the same dignity the opposite gender showed Jesus at the cross. Fact is reality and balanced thinking tells us there are times when clothing or lack thereof is not an option, but let’s let common sense and the Holy Spirit tell us when that is and not our own feelings or even culture.

 

 

Most male doctors will not lust after a female patient as most female doctors will not lust after a male patient. However, lust is not the issue in the light of the cross, but rather human dignity. If modesty and human dignity are an issue in the doctor’s office and at the cross, then would it not also be an issue on the beach, on billboards signs, the silver screen and everywhere else including in the church?

 

Jesus gave His life not only to save us from death but to also cover our nakedness. Wouldn’t dressing modestly be a great way to thank Jesus for dying for us? Likewise, knowing that our brothers and sisters make up the body of Christ, wouldn’t refusing to look upon their naked or half-naked bodies also be a way of treating Christ Himself with the same human dignity that the women showed Jesus at the cross?

Garments of Grace; From Exalted to CAST DOWN

“Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee” (Ezekiel 28:15).

Some have the idea that we will keep sinning here on earth, and then when we  get to heaven our characters will be suddenly changed to where we can’t sin. They forget that heaven is exactly where sin began. The mystery of iniquity is when sin began in a perfect world. The mystery of godliness is when sin is overcome while living on a sinful planet. (See 2 Thessalonians 2:7 and Colossians 1:26-18.) Many people believe the solution to changing our sins is having a new nature and better flesh. However, Lucifer sinned with a perfect nature and Jesus lived a perfect life with a human nature.  Lucifer was not made a robot up in heaven. We are not robots here on earth and we never will be robots up in heaven. We always have had and always will have free choice. So how do we know sin will not occur again in heaven?  

The Spirit of Prophecy points out that whether we are in heaven or earth, there is only one solution for rebellion in the whole universe. “That which alone can effectually restrain from sin in this world of darkness, will prevent sin in heaven. The significance of the death of Christ will be seen by saints and angels. Fallen men could not have a home in the paradise of God without the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Shall we not then exalt the cross of Christ? The angels ascribe honor and glory to Christ, for even they are not secure except by looking to the sufferings of the Son of God. It is through the efficacy of the cross that the angels of heaven are guarded from apostasy. Without the cross they would be no more secure against evil than were the angels before the fall of Satan. Angelic perfection failed in heaven. Human perfection failed in Eden, the paradise of bliss. All who wish for security in earth or heaven must look to the Lamb of God. {Signs of the Times, Dec. 30 1889}

The plan of salvation, making manifest the justice and love of God, provides an eternal safeguard against defection in unfallen worlds, as well as among those who shall be redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. Our only hope is perfect trust in the blood of Him who can save to the uttermost all that come unto God by Him. The death of Christ on the cross of Calvary is our only hope in this world, and it will be our theme in the world to come. Oh, we do not comprehend the value of the atonement! If we did, we would talk more about it. The gift of God in His beloved Son was the expression of an incomprehensible love. It was the utmost that God could do to preserve the honor of His law, and still save the transgressor.  {Our High Calling 45} 

 It would be well for us to spend a thoughtful hour each day in contemplation of the life of Christ. We should take it point by point, and let the imagination grasp each scene, especially the closing ones. As we thus dwell upon His great sacrifice for us, our confidence in Him will be more constant, our love will be quickened, and we shall be more deeply imbued with His spirit. If we would be saved at last, we must learn the lesson of penitence and humiliation at the foot of the cross.  {Desire of Ages 83} 

Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 1 John 4:17

Revelation 20-22; Who Will Wipe The Tears From God’s Eyes?

I am writing today from the dark and stormy Tampa Bay area under a tornado watch.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.  Revelation 21:4

As I finish reading the book of Revelation, I get excited about the new heaven and the new earth. I can’t wait! While I often think about the second coming and what it means to me, I pause for a moment and wonder what it means to God. Many times I pray for Him to come soon because of the suffering I see and endure in my little corner of the globe. What about God? God does not only suffer with me when I suffer but He suffers with the whole world. He sees the child starving in Africa. He sees the child being abused by the parent and the spouse being mistreated by the other spouse. God sees all the horrific crimes and man’s inhumanity to humanity. I long for the second coming, not to put an end to my suffering, but to put an end to God’s suffering with humanity. I want to see the sin, that hurts my Savior, put away.

I think about God wiping the tears from our eyes, and I wonder, who will wipe the tears from God’s eyes? If I am lost and not in heaven I know He won’t forget me. I will be no more. I will forget Him but He says He will never forget me, even more surely than a mother can’t forget  the child she is nursing.  Who will wipe the tears from God’s eyes if I am not there? I choose to be there! Not just for myself, but for my God who gave His life and everything for me. Friend, rest assured, your salvation and guarantee of eternal life is something more than I want for you or you even want for yourself. It is what God wants! Be there for Him. He will be there for you!

Revelation 19-20; The Second Coming and Thousand Years

I am writing today from the beautiful Tampa Bay area.

Revelation 19-20 describes the second coming, and destruction of sin, as well as the destruction of those who persistently rejected God’s saving grace, and stubbornly clung o the sin that destroys them.  Revelation 20 plainly reveals to us the truth of the 1,000 years and what exactly will be going on during that time. Many popular theories suggest this will be a time of second chance but that simply is not so, as at the end of the 1,000 years we see the wicked are still wicked. To help us understand the 1,000 years, here is a video by Pastor Rick Kuntz from Maine. Below also is  a study on the 1,000 years.

The Millennium

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE EARTH WHEN JESUS COMES?

The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.   Isaiah 24:20

WHAT BECOMES OF THE ISLANDS AND MOUNTAINS?

And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.   Revelation 6:14

HOW DESOLATE WILL THE EARTH BECOME?

I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.   Jeremiah 4:23-27

WHAT HAPPENS TO  THE WICKED AT JESUS’ RETURN?

Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD. Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth. And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.   Jeremiah 25:30-33

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE RIGHTEOUS AT HIS COMING?

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.   1 Thessalonians 4:15-17

NOTE: When Jesus comes the wicked are all slain, the righteous are all taken to heaven, and the earth is left in a desolate state (“without form and void” Jeremiah. 4:23; as a “bottomless pit” Revelation 20:1).

HOW LONG WILL SATAN BE BOUND TO THE EARTH?

And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.    Revelation 20:1-3

WHAT WILL THE RIGHTEOUS DO DURING THIS TIME?

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark  upon  their  foreheads,  or  in  their  hands;   and  they  lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.   Revelation 20:4

WHOM SHALL THE RIGHTEOUS BE JUDGING?

Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?  1 Corinthians 6:2, 3

WHAT DID JESUS SAY ABOUT THE RESURRECTION?

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,  And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.  John 5:28, 29

WHEN ARE THE WICKED DEAD RAISED?

But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.  Revelation 20:5, 6

WHAT DOES SATAN DO WHEN THE WICKED ARE RAISED?

And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.    Revelation 20:7, 8

WHAT DESCENDS DOWN FROM GOD OUT OF HEAVEN?

And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.    Revelation 21:2

WHAT DOES SATAN ATTEMPT AND WHAT HAPPENS?

And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.    Revelation 20:9

HOW CONSUMING IS THIS FIRE?

But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.    Psalm 37:20

WHAT HAPPENS TO ALL OF THE WICKED AT THIS TIME?

For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.   Malachi 4:1-3

WHAT BECOMES OF SATAN?

Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffic; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.  Ezekiel 28:18, 19

 

WHAT IS THIS FIRE CALLED?

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.   Revelation 20:14

WHAT WILL GOD CREATE FROM THE ASHES?

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.   2 Peter 3:10-13

WHAT DID JOHN SEE IN VISION?

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.  Revelation 21:1

WHAT WILL THE NEW EARTH BE LIKE?

For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind….And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them. And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear. The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.  Isaiah 65:17, 21-25

Revelation 18; The Light Of The Cross Wins!

I am writing this morning from the beautiful Tampa Bay area. I am sharing this picture I took of the sunrise at Key Largo last December.

And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. Revelation 18:1

This is my favorite verse in all of Revelation! For centuries Satan tries to keep the world in spiritual darkness but he can’t keep away the light of God’s love! After the dark ages, the light of God’s love lights up the whole world! Last Tuesday evening, I walked into our group Bible study that we have each week at Panera Bread. Not only was my study group there, but each week there is another group of people meeting at the same time and place for a Bible study. I got up to get a refill and saw a man at a table studying the Bible too! I thought to myself, what would Martin Luther think, after having to skip meals to  study the only Bible he had access to, chained to a wall in a lonely monastery basement, if he could walk into this restaurant tonight and see two different Bible study groups and a man alone, eating and studying the Bible in a public place! What would Martin Luther think, if today he could see that the Bible that was chained to the lonely basement wall is now printed around the world and is also on our computers, laptops, notebooks and cell phones! What a wonderful time to be living! Truly the world is becoming lightened with the glory of God’s love, forgiveness and mercy! Seize the moment my friends! Take out your Bibles that men, during the dark ages, shed their blood to preserve! With great painstaking effort they have made it possible for you to have the Word of God readily available so you can read and see what Satan has worked so hard to keep you from understanding. God is love! And He loves you! If you find it hard to understand, just ask for the same Holy Spirit to help you which also helped them.

Last December I went to the Florida Keys and took this picture of the sun rising on Key Largo. I thought how wonderful that after several hours of darkness, that God lets the sun simply pierce the darkness with the morning star and slight glow before letting the sun suddenly rise with all its glory. Such light all at once would be blinding and not welcomed! God in His infinite wisdom,  has allowed each reformer during the dark ages, bring us a piece of God’s light and love one by one so as not to blind us all at once. Still, God in His own perfect timing, after the dark ages, lights up the whole world with His glory and love! As I stood that dawn, watching the light pierce the Atlantic Ocean, I could not help but remember Isaiah 11:9, “for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” Yes we are living in an exciting time, and when I walk into Panera Bread and see people studying their Bibles, I think to myself, this can only be good!

Revelation 16-17; God Protects His People

I am writing today from the beautiful Tampa Bay area.

While the scenes that unfold in Revelation 16-17 are devastating, God’s people need not fear. See Psalm 91.

“Zion said, The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of My hands.” Isaiah 49:14-16. The Lord of hosts has said: “He that toucheth you toucheth the apple of His eye.” Zechariah 2:8.  

     Though enemies may thrust them into prison, yet dungeon walls cannot cut off the communication between their souls and Christ. One who sees their every weakness, who is acquainted with every trial, is above all earthly powers; and angels will come to them in lonely cells, bringing light and peace from heaven. The prison will be as a palace; for the rich in faith dwell there, and the gloomy walls will be lighted up with heavenly light as when Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises at midnight in the Philippian dungeon. 

     God’s judgments will be visited upon those who are seeking to oppress and destroy His people. His long forbearance with the wicked emboldens men in transgression, but their punishment is nonetheless certain and terrible because it is long delayed. “The Lord shall rise up as in Mount Perazim, He shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that He may do His work, His strange work; and bring to pass His act, His strange act.” Isaiah 28:21. To our merciful God the act of punishment is a strange act. “As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked.” Ezekiel 33:11. The Lord is “merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, . . . forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.” Yet He will “by no means clear the guilty.” “The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked.” Exodus 34:6, 7; Nahum 1:3. By terrible things in righteousness He will vindicate the authority of His downtrodden law. The severity of the retribution awaiting the transgressor may be judged by the Lord’s reluctance to execute justice. The nation with which He bears long, and which He will not smite until it has filled up the measure of its iniquity in God’s account, will finally drink the cup of wrath unmixed with mercy.  {Great Controversy  626- 627}
